Its NEW YEAR AGAIN!

Time sure flies. We are approaching another new beginning with the new year just around the corner. I am sure most of us look back and think of all the things that have happened to us, personally and professionally, re-live those moments of success and try to ignore/regret the things that we were not able to achieve in the year that went by.

As I sat introspecting about these,it dawned on me that the bigger picture is something quite different. I realized that I should be thankful that I am still alive and surrounded by people who love me. I should be thankful to be able to see the colorful flowers spreading joy,to hear the lovely birds composing the world's best music, to feel the warmth of the sun spreading happiness and joy all around and to feel the innocence of the creator's innovation. As each year passes by, all of them(flowers, birds, nature) remain the same and only give us the best they have, only to make us happy. Its however upto us to feel this ecstasy and spread this joy and to do that... no matter how low or high we feel about ourselves, we need to understand the truth of our preciousness,we need to give the world the best we have, find the best in others and sow the seeds of goodness along the journey of our lives.

As I celebrate the magnanimity and kindness of the creator in bestowing me with these wonderful gifts of life, family and friendships, I wish all of you a very happy, prosperous and successful new year !

Cool Facts about the Classical South Indian Music

I recently got this great opportunity to learn lots of good information about South Indian Classical Music. Being an ardent lover of this form of music, i felt great about learning these facts. Though its not at all very new , i am just happy to share these.

Music in any form, being very much associated with our daily routine, the human mind is conditioned to developing its own natural melodic and rhythmic patterns based on the different behavioral, emotional and intellectual abilities. And this is the main reason why different forms of music have a lot of similarity though they all came up at different places at the same time. Being a great source of recreation and entertainment, the different forms of music basically concentrated on the "feel" of the individual listening to it and ancient classical indian music concentrates mainly on what is called "raaga" which is closely similar to the western chords in english music.

There is a lot of similarity between the mathematics involved in the creation of different raagas and the modern hashing technique! Sounds Interesting Indeed!! I was left wondering if most of the stuff we claim to have discovered recently have already been thought about by our ancestors!

The formula used to differentiate the different raagas is called the "katapayadi sutra", an old sanskrit alphabet based system of classifying the different raagas.This method helped to arrive at a number after several considerations and for each of those numbers, a significant name too. Hence we actually have 72 basic raagas which have been classified in groups of 6 each leaving us 12 different groups. Amongst these 12 again, there are two different groups of six each. Its extremely interesting to find out that a lot of premutation and combinations goes into making each of the group of 6 raagas. One can't help but get amazed at the power of mathematics in the development of ancient musicology! The "katapayadi sutra" was thus used to derive specific names from specific numbers where as the Modern Hashing method aims at deriving numbers for specific names.

The idea of giving specific names must have been done to aid the memory of the teachers and the learners, since early India took to the oral culture of education. It would be absurd to claim that the first thinkers of the modern hashing methods had no original thoughts. Nevertheless, it is indeed very refreshing to learn that there is in actuality some arguable similarities between the old techniques and the new ones.

Adorable Smile from a cute little Stranger!

It was one of my usual trips in one of the public transport services. I got into the bus with ease and took a seat near the window which was my favourite place in any bus, as it gave me a good view of things happening outside and some fresh air too! As i made myself comfortable and got adjusted for the travel ahead, a lady with a little girl aged about 2-3 years got into the bus. This was not an unusual scene for me, so i just turned my face and peeped out of the window although i noticed a very curious and a cute face in that little girl.

As her mother couldnot carry her, she was made to sit in a separate seat with her mom seated beside her in the row opposite to where i was seated. Though i noticed all this, it did not look new to me at all and i was just lost in my own thoughts as i got one big broad adorable smile from the little stranger.. It made me feel great. I smiled back too and kept wondering what made her give me such a cute smile.Even as i wondered about it, it was time for her to get down. Her mom again carried her and she looked as happy as ever. She again turned back, looked at me and smiled again. This time around i was a little confused too as to what was going on, and i started wondering if i had seen or met her before.

Little did i realise then that she never asked herself whether she had to smile or not. She was just happy and blissfully innocent and shared her happiness with someone though she did not know me at all. Soon it was my turn to get down and as i walked back home i kept wondering if we are victims of choice as some of us make a choice to share our happiness too. I guess its far more easy as kids to do that and still get away with it! :-)

It was an amazing and a rejuvenating experience to get such an innocent, happy and humble smile from a cute little stranger.
I Hope i get to meet her again!!

The small poem above got me thinking about many things. I was surprised about the different human beings all of us could be if we just took calcualted risks. Don't we all, at times stop ourselves from doing something or being someone just for the fear of not being able to handle it?
Does fear stop us from taking that special step which will give us, that wonderful joy all of us crave for?

Mind-boggling Q's

A lot of questions unanswered!

A "why" and "how" to everything we do makes us realise that we actually dont really understand all activities we do everyday.
Do we really bother to understand all that we do and study 100% . Do we know any subject in and out? Does remembering everything we learn/ have learnt mean that we have the practical understanding of the subject or is it absolutely dependent on each of our fact retaining capacities??

I feel Understanding anything in the true sense of the word can only happen when we start enjoying what we do... this is not new at all ..but how many of us actually follow it???
Do all of us realise that we dont have to impress someone or want to be like someone just because they were successful in what they did?
